A Family-Owned Sanctuary
Werneth Memorial Park is owned and lovingly managed by the Sharples family - Elaine, Luke, Megan, and Sophie - whose roots run deep in the local communities of Stockport, Tameside, Cheshire East, and the High Peak. The creation of this natural burial ground reflects their wish to give something meaningful back to the land and the people who live here.
Our commitment is simple:
To provide a dignified, environmentally friendly resting place where families can find comfort and connection for generations to come.
About Us
Located in the heart of Romiley, Werneth Memorial Park has been created with a clear vision: to offer families a peaceful resting place that respects the environment and honours loved ones in a simple, natural way.
For generations, the Sharples family has lived and worked throughout Stockport, Tameside, Cheshire, and the High Peak. Their strong community ties and understanding of local values have shaped every aspect of the park’s development.
Our Ethos
At the core of everything we do is the belief that nature provides comfort, healing, and continuity. Our aim is to protect the landscape, encourage wildlife, and maintain a space where families can visit, reflect, and feel connected to their loved ones in a calm, natural setting.
In Partnership With The Natural Death Centre
We proudly support the ethos and practices of The Natural Death Centre.
Our burial procedures follow their recommended guidelines, ensuring:
> No embalming
> No vaults or concrete materials
> Only biodegradable coffins and shrouds
> Environmentally sensitive interment practices

> A Landscape Designed for Peace
Our natural burial areas are gently maintained to protect flora, fauna, and soil quality. Over time, the resting places blend beautifully into the landscape, allowing nature to reclaim and renew the space.
A Resting Place in Harmony With Nature
Werneth Memorial Park has been designed to nurture biodiversity and preserve the natural beauty of the landscape. Our meadow and woodland areas support:
• Wildflowers
• Native trees
• Birdlife
• Pollinators
• Small mammals
• Seasonal plant life
Paths are designed to be low-impact, ensuring the environment remains as natural and undisturbed as possible.
A Growing Sanctuary
As the years pass, burials contribute to the regeneration of the land, creating a living legacy for future generations. Every interment becomes part of the park’s evolving ecosystem.

Why Choose a Natural Burial?
At Werneth Memorial Park we’re encouraged by how the UK’s natural-burial movement is growing.
With over 270 dedicated natural burial grounds across Britain, the option is now firmly part of our funeral landscape.
In a recent survey, around 10 % of respondents said they would choose a natural burial if given the option.
